[June 18, 2025]: Southeastern Legal Foundation released the following statement from President Kimberly Hermann today on the Supreme Court’s ruling in United States v. Skrmetti, where the Supreme Court upheld Tennessee’s ban on gender transition surgeries for minors:
“The Supreme Court’s ruling today in the United States v. Skrmetti case is a tremendous victory for protecting minor children from harmful pharmaceuticals that sterilize them and surgeries that mutilate their genitals all in the name of ‘gender affirming care.’ Gender dysphoria is the only mental health disorder that some therapists decided to ‘affirm’ by giving children surgeries and life-long medications as a ‘solution’ for their struggle. We are thankful that the Supreme Court included in their ruling today that, ‘a report commissioned by England’s National Health Service (NHS England) characterized the evidence concerning the use of puberty blockers and hormones to treat transgender minors as ‘remarkably weak.’ This should help protect even more minors struggling through puberty from life-altering mutilations that are not clinically proven to help them.
Although this victory is critical, the fight is far from over. Parents must continue to stay diligent against attacks on their children. It will unfortunately take many more lawsuits by brave parents and children to stop woke ideologies from destroying our country.”
