(June 4, 2025): Southeastern Legal Foundation’s (SLF) Kimberly Hermann joined One America News to break down the Trump Department of Education’s recent declaration that June is “Title IX Month,” an announcement that comes on the heels of several states letting boys compete in girls’ state sports championships in recent weeks.
Hermann applauded the administration for its dedication to protecting Title IX and girls across America. She highlighted examples from four states over the last week that allowed boys to compete against girls and take titles, trophies, and scholarships away from them. In one instance, a Minnesota boy played 21 shut out innings in a women’s softball game. And in California, a biological male swept women’s track and field events.
Hermann warned that there are “rampant First Amendment violations” also happening against students, parents, teachers, and coaches “if they even dare wear a shirt saying, ‘Save Women’s Sports.'”
SLF already stopped President Biden’s radical Title IX rewrite from going into effect, which would have changed the definition of “sex” under Title IX to “gender identity” and would have erased decades of legal and constitutional protections for women and girls in schools. “Now we’re going to have to go state by state and stop these radical gender ideologist governors from taking over our girls and putting them in very dangerous situations,” Hermann said.
Congress needs to amend Title IX to definitively affirm that Title IX protects on the basis of biological sex. In the meantime, parents need to stand up to the egregious policies that violate students’ rights, especially in the courtroom.
